New Dan grade February 4th 2018
Congratulations to Rocco Walsh on successfully grading for his Sho-Dan (1st degree black belt) At the Shotokan of England Karate Union black/brown belt course on the Isle Of Wight.
The grading took place after 3 1/2 hours of training alongside many black belt SEKU members and under the instruction of Chief Instructor, Senseis Michael Dewey & Brian Smith.
The grading comprised of basic techniques and combinations, Kata's Heian Nidan, Heian Godan & Bassia Dai followed by Kumite ( free style sparring) and Jiyu Ippon (semi free style sparring).
Rocco began his training 6 years ago and trains under the expert guidance of club Sensei Malcolm Bradley (5th Dan) & Sensei Mick Lambert (4th Dan).
Rocco follows in his Brother Jenson's footsteps who is also a black belt and trains with him at the club.
Rocco says ' I am so pleased to have passed my black belt grading, I am very grateful to my Sensei's for all the hard work that they put into my training. I want to continue training and hopefully one day will be an 8th Dan like Sensei Dewey'



Club Grading March 13th 2018
Congratulations to all club members that passed their grading today with Sensei Mick Dewey. Also well done to Ellie-May Hartnell for being awarded the best grader on the day award.

S.E.K.U Annual Championships
The 36th SEKU annual competition was held at the Portsmouth Academy. Six club members entered in various categories.
Connor Barnes Jenson Walsh & Rocco Walsh entered the junior team kata, Jenson and Rocco entered the Junior black/brown belt Kata & over 5’ San-Bon Kumite (3 step fighting) Connor Barnes entered the pee-wee (under 10 years) Kata & San-bon Kumite.
Andy Shorkey, Malc Jupp and Simon Barnes entered the adult Dan grade Kumite & Adult team Kumite. All members perform extremely well going through a number of rounds.

Club Grading July 10th 2018
Congratulations to all club members that passed their grading today with Sensei Mick Dewey. Also well done to Lola Dowden for being awarded the best grader on the day award
Chris Carr Training 28th & 29th July
This years no frills course was a mixture of simple basic karate, efficient Kumite drills and no frills practical self defence applications.
Thanks also to the members of the AKA who came over to train.​



Club Grading November 29th 2018

Club Awards Presentation December 6th 2018
The Dave Meyrick annual junior award, and the Tony Hunns annual adult award was presented to
Rocco Walsh and Malc Jupp respectively.
Rocco who has shown commitment in his training by successfully grading for his Sho-Dan (1st degree black belt) in March and also for his performances in the S.E.K.U championships this year.
Malc was awarded the adult award for his long term involvement with the club and also for performances in competitions over the years.
The awards are presented in memory of Sensei’s Tony Hunns and Dave Meyrick who were both long time members of the club and sadly passed away in July 2012.They were both presented by Amanda Osman Tony's daughter and grandaughters Jessica & Elisha
