SHOTOKAN KARATE AND MARTIAL ARTS CLUB

If you are an existing or a former club student or someone that is interested in joining A Martial Arts club I hope the information on our site will be of some benefit to you. The club dates back to the late sixties, and was the first Shotokan Karate Club on the island. Shotokan Karate is one of the more traditional styles of Martial Arts. The club has a long history of traditional Shotokan Karate and the teaching methods are taught virtually the same way as our previous Sensei’s (instructors).The emphasis is, therefore one of dedication and hard work rather than physical ability. The ultimate aim of Karate lies not in victory nor defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants. (Gichin Funakoshi Sensei) The club has separate classes for beginners, intermediate and advance grades. Each class provides a structured programme so that students can learn at their level of fitness and experience.

As a non-profit club our main objective is to share our love of traditional Shotokan karate with anyone who wants to learn. (We are not a business)

Our aim is to teach what we love and see our students grow and if you are willing to learn, work hard and train regularly, we can promise you will get there.

The club has no contracts and no payment by direct debits you just pay as and when you train.

If you are over seven and a half years old and want to learn something new, get fitter, increase your self-confidence and discipline and meet new friends or you just want to train with us when visiting the Island please contact us on the numbers below or just come along to the Dojo on A training night.

I joined this dojo a year back, after moving to the island. It’s a great club for beginners to join (2 of my children now enrolled as well!) and also for more experienced individuals to develop their kata and kumite. Great instructors who are motivating and get the best from you, but at the same time in a safe and controlled environment. Highly recommend.

I have been a member of this club for 19 years and I wouldn't want to train anywhere else. My 10 year old daughter has also been a member since she was 7 and is advancing nicely through the grades. It's a lovely thing for us to do together, she is a 3rd generation of karateka in my family. My late father was also a member of the club for many years.
The club's Sensei's are fantastic. Their knowledge, passion and commitment to teaching, training and the club are an inspiration. They want nothing more than to see you succeed and to pass on their knowledge and experiences of Shotokan karate. They are so supportive of your karate journey whatever your level/skill, from a beginner to an advanced senior grade. I have learnt so much in my time training in Shotokan, and continue to do so. The learning never ends!

I've really enjoyed being there as its been a long time now and training with the sensei's of the dojo and Micks been brilliant! Really does push how we need to go to help with grading I love going to karate. The downside is I wish for longer hours. The more I train the more confident I become and help towards grading enjoying different techniques in karate and the fun of learning!
